He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Robert "J. R."; and his siblings, Thurman Hugh Sims and Rachel Ann Sims. He is survived by: his wife Carol Thornberry Sims; his children, Jon Sims (Sandie), Holly Sims and Jody Sims (Rae Ann); his grandchildren, Kyle Sims (Patricia), Drew Sims (Jessica), Joshua Sims (McKenzie), Audrey Kedanis (Joe) and Nathan Sims; his great grandchildren, Jack, Kay, Riley and Emmie; and his siblings, Gertrude M. Frey, Alan Douglas Sims (Charlotte "Charlie"), Stephen M. Sims, Sr., Rex Sims (Susan), Mark Sims (Martha), Teresa and Delores Kay "Lorsey" Turnage. He is also survived by 36 nieces and nephews.
