He was predeceased by: his father Robert Estill Hopkins; and his children, Emily Hopkins and Logan Christopher Hopkins. He is survived by: his mother Minnie Mae Hopkins (Barnes) of Brodhead, KY; his children, James Dakota Kirk of Mt. Sterling, KY, Gabriel Kirk of Celebration, FL and Jesse Hollin of Somerset, KY; his grandchildren, Hadley and Braxton; and his sister Lisa Diane Stewart (Larry).
