He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Hemphill and Pearl Sizemore Hemphill; his wife Mary Ethe Powell Hemphill; and his siblings, Reverend Estill Hemphill, Tipton Hemphill, Lawrence Hemphill, Harold Hemphill, Floyd Hemphill, Charles Hemphill, Marie Smith, Florence Hensley, Cleda Robinson and Joe Hemphill.
He is survived by: his stepson Billy Engle (Mary); his granddaughter Savannah Milwee; and his stepgrandchildren, Ryan Mills, Tyler Mills, Amy Grant, Ashley Grant, Jason Engle and Rufus.
