He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert "Bob" Carpenter and Annie Kirby Carpenter; his former wife Alice Young Carpenter; his wife Ruth Bailey Carpenter; his siblings, Reece Anderson, Pearl Thomas, Gladys Mink, Nettie Fletcher, Elizabeth Carpenter and David Carpenter; his son Robert "Bobby" Malicoat; and his grandson John Malicoat.
He is survived by: his great grandchild Jenny Marie Anglin; his daughters, Mary Etta Spires of Berea and Della Mae Berry of Somerset; his siblings, Faye Miller, Dessie Himes of Lexington, Jay Carpenter (Mildred) and Ronald Carpenter (Judy) of Richmond; his grandchildren, Mark Berry, Randy Berry, June Frank (Jack), Pam Thacker, Iva Wolfe, Bart Malicoat (Sue), Tom Malicoat (Amy), Doug Malicoat (Becky), Sherry Dinkle (Herb) and Tracy Peck (Bill); his great grandchild Jessica Thacker; and his nephews, Bradley and Anjellica Isaacs.
