He was predeceased by: his parents, Cash Carpenter and Evelina Isaacs Carpenter; his wife Katherine Friend Carpenter; his children, Donald Wayne Carpenter and Noratta VanWinkle; his grandsons, Timothy Allen VanWinkle and Zachary Croley; and his siblings, George, Ralph, Mary Liz, Ruth, Glatha, William and Bertha.
He is survived by: his children, Charles Carpenter (Marsha), Mary Jane Bowman (John), Diane Croley (Teddy), Wanda Hurt (Philip) and Keith "Pete" Carpenter (Rhonda); his sister Francis Ogle; his grandchildren, Chris Carpenter (Kelly), Charles "Chad" Carpenter (Joanna), Joshua Carpenter, Kristina Vinson (Craig), Kelly Walters (Jon), Michael John Bowman (Lydia), Nathan Bowman (Jennifer), Whitney Croley (Kenny Lowder), Andy Hurt (Brooke), Evonne Bullock (Chris) and Marie McFerron (Randall); and his pet Ashley. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
