He was predeceased by : his parents, Nokie Dowell and Catherine Cooper Dowell; his wife Sharon Blackman Dowell; his sons, James R. Dowell and Randall Dowell; and his siblings, Jackie Dowell, JC Dowell, Ray Dowell, Ronnie Dowell and Sue Lindsey.

He is survived by : his son Steven R. Dowell (Teresa) of Owensboro; his brother Mike Dowell (Charlene) of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren, Lauren Andrews (Anthony), Elizabeth Hodskins (Kaylie), Alex Hodskins (Melanie), Kevin Hodskins (Alexis) and Jessica Rupert; and his great grandchildren, Kaylee, Ava, McKenzie, Greyson, Charlotte, Cali, Jefferson, Cloud, Finley, Kevin, Valerie and Violet. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Saturday, June 15th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the William L. Danks Funeral Home (222 N Lafayette St, Beaver Dam, KY 42320).
