He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Broughton and Mary Elizabeth Broughton; and his former wife Henrietta Cole Broughton. He is survived by: his wife Mina Yewell Jewell Broughton; his children, Ernie Broughton (Carol) and Janice White (David); his sisters, Doris Phillips (Frankie) of Danville, KY and Dorothy Boyd (Kenneth) of Standford, KY; his stepsons, Louis Jewell (Hallie) of Bardstown and Scott Jewell of Bardstown; his grandchildren, James Broughton and Natalie Thompson (Jimmy); and his sisters-in-law, Maxine "Pat" Hahn and Pauline Shields of Lawrenceburg, KY. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, February 2nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Barlow Funeral Home (2675 E John Rowan Blvd, Bardstown, KY 40004). A funeral service was held on Monday, February 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Bardstown Baptist Church (101 W Brashear Ave, Bardstown, KY 40004).
