He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Shields and Effie Partin Shields; his wife Willa Dean Shields; his son Anthony N. "Tony" Shields; his siblings, Evelyn Treadway (Glen), Vesta Rice, Dallas Shields and Douglas Shields (Charlotte); and his brothers-in-law, Jimmy Ray Hall (Helen) and Tommy Hall.
He is survived by: his nephew J. M. Hall; his children, Susan Poff (Derrick) of Barbourville, Donna Martin (Larry) of Barbourville and Denna Shields of Barbourville; his brothers, Garrett Shields (Judy) of Barbourville, Joe Shields (Betty) of Barbourville and Richard Shields of Ashland; his grandchildren, Michael Poff (Hannah Nash), Megan Poff (Tate Fields), Nick, Abbie Martin and Anthony Shields II; his great grandchild Taylin Shields; and his friends, Johnny Peters of Barbourville and Randall Roach of Barbourville.
