He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil E. Bennett and Mary Bennett (Fuson); his son Ernie Joe Bennett; and his brothers, Justus Bennett and Edward Bennett.

He is survived by: his daughter Andria Bennett of Syracuse; his siblings, Ruby Jean Bennett Smith of Corbin and Ralph Bennett of Jacksboro; and his close friends, Brenda Bryant, Valerie Lynn, Doris Bennett and Bill Howard.
