He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Roy and Hazel Adle Herold (Mentzer); and his siblings, Tom Herold and Donna Beisel. He is survived by: his wife Hazel Aleta Griffith; his children, Terry (Sharon Herold) of Eureka and Charlotte (Brad Stiles) of Fredonia; and his sisters, Edna Hughes of Hawkins, Texas and Laura Smith of Wichita. He is also survived by five grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
