He was predeceased by: his parents, Meryl Dean and Mary "Martha" Spencer (King); his brothers-in-law, Vernon Terrell and Larry Nelson; and his nephew Gregory Spencer.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Spencer of Winfield; his children, Hannah Ballard (Mark Sheaves) of Lawrence and Joseph Ballard (Laura) of Leawood; his siblings, Gary Spencer (Sharon) of Udall, Elaine Nelson of Winfield, Ronnie Spencer (Becky) of Winfield and Shiela Terrell of Winfield; and his grandchildren, June and Dean Ballard.

A memorial has been established in Jimmy's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
