He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Thomas and Amelia Elizabeth Bender (Deatherage); his former wife Nancy Wood; his wife Ella "Lee" Asbury; his siblings, Dean Bender, Roy Bender, Earl Bender, Tommy Bender and Vera Corum; his daughters, Pam Miller and Connie Beaumont; and his grandchildren, Sherry Vasquez, Brad Vasquez, Craig Beaumont and Jessica Asbury.
He is survived by: his close friend Alma Chappell of Aurora, MO; his children, Michael R. Baldwin (Jan), Angela Shear Winfield (Elden) and Pamela Bender Winfield (Joe Zanardi); his stepchildren, William Blake (Pat), Michael Asbury Winfield (Tonya), J. R. Chappell (Teresa), Dean Chappell (Sammy) and Ann Metcalf (Terry); his sisters, Francis and Peggy; and his grandchildren, Jada, Megan, Melissa, Eric, Diana, Priscilla, Katie, Deena, Bobby, Cindy, Blake, Matthew, Justin, Cassie, Karla, Jennifer, Tanya and Joshua.
A memorial has been established in Don's name for the VFW Post #3544. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
