He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gates and Linnie Gates; his wife Sharon Faye Roush; his sisters, Lavon Hazleton and Leora Henderson; and his son-in-law Sean Starnes.
He is survived by: his daughter Lori Starnes of Royse City, TX; his grandchildren, Trevor, Sarah Gates and Brielle Gates; and his sisters, Arlene Etheridge of Derby, KS and Verda McCloy of Englewood, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
