He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Earl and Meta Fay Pemberton Barnes; his wife Florence Kathleen Pantle; his grandson Joshua Casper; and his brothers, Louie Barnes, Cecil Barnes and Fred Barnes.

He is survived by: his children, David Barnes (Carolyn), Timothy Barnes, Alan Barnes (Patricia) and Linda Sue Casper (Daniel); and his siblings, Earl Barnes, Thelma Hubbard, Wilma Brown and Juanita Davidson. He is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
