He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Schmidt and Ilene Schmidt; and his pet Sally Jane. He is survived by: his wife Delores Heard; his children, Ashley of Wilson and Lee (Kiley Demel) of Wilson; his pet Sophie Jo; his siblings, Robert Schmidt (Julie) of Beloit, Kansas and Cindy Heinze (Steve) of Wilson; and his aunts, Patricia Dinkel and Joann Betts. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to American Legion Post 262 or the Sons of the American Legion and may be sent in care Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, PO Box 533, Wilson, KS 67640.
