He was predeceased by: his parents, S. Lewis Smith and Ardis Smith; his former wife Barbara; his sister Mary Ardis (Rucus); his daughter Jacqueline (Fernandez); and his grandson Jonathan.
He is survived by: his wife Andelyn Rose; and his children, Richard, Karen (Schauner), Sherry (Swartz), Kenneth, Hugh, Samuel and Susan (Grommesh). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
