He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Goentzel and Bertha Goentzel (Unruh); and his brothers, Quint and Howard Goentzel. He is survived by: his children, Denise Oliver (Aaron) and Curtis Goentzel (Sunni) of Belle Plaine, KS; his grandchildren, Rachel Smith (Tyler), Noah Oliver, Gage Goentzel and Jack Goentzel; and his siblings, Sharon Bartel (James), Jim Goentzel, Doug Goentzel (Patsy) and Carmen Schmidt (Darrel). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial has been established in his loving memory to the American Heart Association.
