He was predeceased by: his brother Jay Carey (Verna Jean Carey); and his father James Robert Carey. He is survived by: his children, Vernie Sheffield, Toby Surbur, John Jay Carey and Jessica Lynn Carey; and his grandchildren, Jesse Felix, Adrian Felix, Jasmine Felix, Akeyla Carey, Evan Richard Surbur and Beau Kendall Surbur.
