He was predeceased by: his sister Patsy Ann Hubbard. He is survived by: his spouse Billie Jo Krueger; his children, Doug Smart (Debbie) of Abilene, KS and Lori Coleman (Douglas) of Manhattan, KS; and his grandchildren, Scott Coleman, Hayley Bieker, Jessica Goodale, Becky Rankin and Robin Smart.

A memorial fund is established to the Washington High School Endowment Fund or Washington County Hospital Foundation.
