He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Piatt and Lois Piatt; his sisters, Georgeann (Jack) and Drusilla (George); and his niece Kathy Haworth.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his sons, Christopher of Chicago and Matthew; and his son-in-law Kevin Thornton of San Francisco.
