He was predeceased by: his parents, A. H. 'Spud' and Effie Wells (Lott); and his brother Ronald Wells. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Wells of Ulysses; his children, Brenda K. Wells of Oak Creek, Wisconsin and Brian Wells of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; his stepdaughter Shari L. Ward of Ulysses; his grandchildren, Devin J. Wells of Oak Creek, Jacob, Emily Wells of Milwaukee and Victoria (Mason McCormick) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his stepgrandchildren, Nathan and Jordin Ward of Ulysses; his great grandchildren, Lincoln and Lucas McCormick of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and his siblings, Shirley Weis of Hickok, Kassandra Bentley of Durango, Colorado and Marlon (Jeri Ann Wells) of Tulsa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
