Mike Hatfield wrote a sympathy message

“I am so sad to learn of Doug's passing. I was a classmate of his in our entire VC school system. From Kindergarten thru High School, we were very close friends. His father, Paul, was our baseball coach and mentor starting around 4th-5th grade. A few short years later, that team won the State Championship of the Sheriffs League. We will all miss Doug, and many lifelong memories. My Sincere Condolences. Mike Hatfield VCHS Class of 1965”
