We are sad to announce that on December 5, 2020, at the age of 95, Bernice Chilen (Ulysses, Kansas) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Louis F. Fief and Albertine A. Fief (Charbonneau); her husband Joseph B. Chilen; her son Robert J. Chilen; her son-in-law John Thacker; her siblings, Rane Fief and Joan McGuire; and her nephew Dr. John McGuire.

She is survived by: her children, Patrick Chilen (Ann) of Denver, Tim Chilen (Jackie) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Peggy Thacker of Boise and Mary Kay Malone (Craig) of Ulysses, Kansas; her grandchildren, Brooke Kruger (Jeff), Carrie Sheffield (Court), Betsy Rowen (Leo), Aimee Hovan (Drew), Diane Amend (Chris), Erin Thacker, Aaron Chilen, Lillie Chilen (Travis Grathwell), Max Chilen (Megan), Nina Chilen, Joseph Chilen, Haley Franz (David) and Cort Malone (Amanda); and her great grandchildren, Weston, Miles Kruger, Trey, Georgia Sheffield, Oliver, Murphy Rowen, Jacob, Lessa, Keira Hovan, Sydney Amend, Desert, Rowan Rose, Elsie, Sadie Grathwell and Charlie Malone. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial contributions may be given to Missionaries of Charity in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.

“My condolences to the family of Bernice. She was always so sweet to my parents, Richard and Gerda Rusnak, who also lived at The Atriums. Dad passed Jan. 2019 and Mom in March 2020. Bernice dined at a table across from Mom and Dad. She and my Dad always needed toothpicks! Bernice was always such a sweetheart. Rest in peace, Bernice. I will treasure the photos and memories I have of her with my parents. Kathe Rusnak”
