He was predeceased by: his parents, Otis Fuller and Julia Ruth Burlew Stroup; his stepfather Dannie Morris; his brother Larry Stroup; and his son-in-law Theo Donaldson.
He is survived by: his wife Elinor Baker; his children, Brenda Donaldson of Albuquerque, NM and Douglas Scott Stroup, Sr. (Patty); his grandchildren, Natalia Donaldson, Aleyna Donaldson, Douglas Stroup, Jr. (Casey), Cody Stroup (Mary Margaret) and Samantha Stroup; and his sisters-in-law, Ione Stroup, Darlene Brosa (Robert) and Shirley Parker (Harry). He is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren.
