With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joseph Eakes of Topeka, Kansas, born in Garden City, Kansas, who passed away on December 7, 2020 at the age of 90. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Joseph Eakes to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John Eakes and Marie Schaefer Eakes; his son Joe Eakes; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson, Chris Eakes and Rodney Gaston.

He is survived by: his children, Marilyn Anderson, Teresa Burgess, Marcia Devlin, Patty Kadlicek, Annette Eakes and Barbie Appelhanz; his daughter-in-law Sheryl Sullivan; and his friend Jayne Nichols. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice or St. Joseph Church and sent in care of the funeral home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.

“I only knew Joe a relatively short time but always found him positive and upbeat. Joe seemed a man of great character and morals. My sympathy to all his family and to Jane Nichols. I was at his 90th birthday party and regret that, as I said at the time, I will not see him for his 100th birthday party. I shall miss him.”
