He was predeceased by: his wife Irene Fields. He is survived by: his children, Ron (Debbie), Kerry and Scott (Carla); and his grandchildren, Eric and Micayla.
Jim's community involvement included Boy Scouts of America, the Lions Club, Kansas State University's Johnson Cancer Research Center, First Christian Church, and the Topeka Zoo where he donated snakes including copperheads and rattlesnakes for their exhibits. He donated so many snakes the zoo was able to exchange them for other animals from other zoos.
