Galen Stallbaumer Obituary

Galen Henry Stallbaumer, 75, Topeka, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

Galen was born September 29, 1948, to Herman and Margaret Nordhaus Stallbaumer in Centralia, Kansas, where he lived on the family farm until marrying Patricia "Pat" Wagner on February 8, 1969. They enjoyed over 54 years together. She survives.

They lived in Holton and had their two children, Christina Madden (Mark) and Kevin Stallbaumer (Jaymie) both of Topeka. The family moved to Topeka ten years later and it has been home to Galen and Pat ever since.

Along with his parents, Galen is preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn and Kirby Stallbaumer. He is survived by his sisters, JoAnn McKinney (Mac) of Harker Heights TX and Elaine Chase of Seneca KS; sisters-in-law, Virginia Stallbaumer of Las Vegas and Carol Stallbaumer of Seneca; his grandchildren, Brianna Stolze (Nik), Mandy Madden and John Madden, Dylan Stallbaumer, Betti Ann Stallbaumer, Melissa Derr, all of Topeka, and Tyler Huseby of Belle Fourche SD; five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and out-laws.

Galen worked at Hills Pet Foods until his retirement in 2014. He loved to work on restoring cars and tractors. He was comfortable on any piece of machinery and even after retiring, worked side jobs at Mammoth Construction and Briggs Auto doing various tasks such as mowing, delivering machinery, working on football fields and golf courses and driving and delivering cars. He also loved mowing his own lawn and clearing out trees on his property and his neighbors' properties. Galen liked to wheel and deal as well. You would often find him online buying or selling or just looking.

He was a dedicated family man and if you were to ask anyone to describe him, almost everyone would say he was a great man; humble, honest and kind. He would lend a hand to anyone who needed it without hesitation.

Galen was a lifetime Catholic and he and Pat are members of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, Topeka, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 534 and had been an usher for years.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 5, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where the Knights of Columbus will lead the rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Knights of Columbus Council No. 534, sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to http://www.kevinbrennanfamily.com.
