He is survived by: his mother Frances Oates; his children, O'Sheana Oates, Leslie Oates (Austin Ferguson), Braxton Oates and Allie Oates; his granddaughter Addilyn Ferguson; and his brothers, David Oates (Joyce) and Timothy Oates.
