Thomas Frederick Wempe Obituary
THOMAS "Tom" FREDERICK WEMPE, age 78, of Spring Hill, KS, passed away on August 23, 2021 at his home in Spring Hill after an extended illness, 5 years with Lewy Body Dementia. Tom was born January 18, 1943 in Hiawatha, Kansas, to Lawrence & Dorothy Wempe. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1961 and he and his classmates remained close, having yearly reunions and gatherings since graduation.
He felt very blessed to have them in his life, along with his Ford Motor Company family – co-workers. He very much appreciated his customers in the Body Shop and was thankful for their business. Tom married Victoria on 9/19/1993 and she survives, of the home. Thomas and Victoria would have celebrated their 28th anniversary next month, on September 19th.
He is survived by two sons, Todd Wempe (Brenda), Gardner, KS, Trent Wempe (Cindy), Olathe, KS; Daughter, Terie (Chris) Jahr, Ottawa, KS; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Rodman, Cole Camp, Mo, Mary Miller (Roy), Lane, KS, Jackie Anderson (Les), Paola, KS; Donna Livingstone, Bakersfield, CA; Brother, John Wempe, Kansas City, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Father, Lawrence Wempe, Mother, Dorothy Dodson and Stepfather Emmett Dodson; brother, ET (Emmett) Dodson; sisters, Anastasia Hutchens, Glenda Martinez; daughters, Trudie Hutchison and Tracie Michaels; a granddaughter Allisha Reynolds; many nieces and nephews and most recently, his beloved Dog, Bella and Feline companion, Kit.
Tom accomplished many things in his life. He was a guard at Lansing, KS Prison for 18 months, returning to Spring Hill, where he served on the Spring Hill Police Department. He later joined the team at Ford Motor Company in Lenexa, KS, retiring in 1996, after 30+ years. He also owned and operated a Body Shop (repair & paint, dent repair, tire repair & sales) in Spring Hill for 45 years, retiring in 2015, due to health issues.
He loved playing horseshoes, FreeCell & Solitaire. Working and religion were his most favorite interest. He loved talking about politics, (another OCD subject). His only regret in life would have been that he can no longer tease & tickle his great grandkids. Tom was very dedicated to and cherished his church family since 1971 and rarely missed attending, serving in any way he could.
He was a member of Grace Communion International Church – Kansas City South. Celebration of Life. Celebration of life will be Sunday, September 12, 2021, 1:30pm at Whitefield Academy, 8929 Holmes Rd, Kansas City MO, Reception to follow and all are welcome. Masks are mandated. Private interment will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery at a later date.
