He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred James and Florence Hazel Richards (Alsop); his wife Dorothy Jane Lauderback; his daughter Regina Irene Coons; and his siblings, Carmen Josephine Cady, Betty Parthene Dunkley and Burton LeRoy Richards.

He is survived by: his children, Victoria Jane Gillihan, Vance James Richards, Virginia and Leslie Lee Richards. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City, MO.
