He is survived by: his wife Joyce Tripp; his children, Kevin Whelchel (Maureen) of Solomon, Nathan Whelchel (Melissa) of Salina, Brenda Whelchel-Bayless Topeka (Steve) and Kala Wood (F. David) of Solomon; his grandchildren, Kate McCluskey (Ryan) of Shawnee, Ryan Whelchel (Emily) of Fishers, IN, Keith Whelchel (Sydney), Trenton Wood, Drew Wood, Matthew Whelchel and Ashley Whelchel of Salina; and his great grandchildren, Molly Whelchel of Salina and Eleanor McCluskey of Shawnee.
Memorials may be made in care of Ryan Mortuary for nursing scholarships, to Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
