He was predeceased by: his parent Josephina Karls; his siblings, Winfrid Karls, Robert Karls, Joseph Karls, Dolores Fleckenstein, Agnes Chvatal and Audrey Schroer; and his sons-in-law, Ambrosia Mendiola and Ralph Nelson.
He is survived by: his wife Helen of Oberlin; his children, Barbara Nelson of McPherson, Jacque Boultinghouse of Selden, Robyn Mendiola of Lawrence, Shane Boultinghouse (Jill) of Great Bend, Shawn Boultinghouse (Charlena) of Lawrence and Bart Karls of Hays; and his sister Helen Jo Ochs (Henry) of Hoxie. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren; 24 Great-Grandchildren.
