Ila Simpson Obituary

Satanta – Ila Marie (Gressly) Simpson, 85, passed away, Tuesday, December 28, 2020 in Satanta KS. Ila was born March 18, 1935 in Hugoton, Kansas. She graduated from Hugoton High School in 1953 and continued her education at Halstead School of Nursing to earn her RN degree in 1956. She worked at the Satanta District Hospital for many years before retiring.

Ila married the love of her life, Mearle Dale Simpson, at the Christian Church in Hugoton, Kansas on August 16, 1957. They made their home on the Simpson Farm southeast of town for over 60 years where Mearle raised wheat, milo, and corn and Ila cooked and took many meals to the fields during harvest. Ila was a loyal supporter of her children's and grandchildren's sport interests.

Everyone knew she would travel to watch them all play volleyball, basketball, football and the occasional track meet. Ila was an excellent homemaker and she taught all her children how to cook, bake, garden, and keep a clean house before they left home. She will be missed dearly. Ila is survived by her husband of 63 years, Mearle Dale Simpson, and their three children, Deborah Lea Weeks, Susan Marie Palmgren and husband Sam, and Scott Brian Simpson; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Marie Gressly and two brothers, Jerry and Raymond Lee of Hugoton. During this unprecedented time with Covid 19 virus concerns, the family will be holding a private graveside service at her final resting place in Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial contributions be made to the Satanta Long Term Care Unit, in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, Ks 67877.
