He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence F. "Doc" Tanking and Cecilia Mary Peppersack Tanking; his siblings, Berneta Shults and James Tanking; and his brother-in-law John Cheray.
He is survived by: his siblings, Donald Tanking (Barbara) of Topeka, Larry Tanking (Alberta) of Holton, Gerald Tanking (Denise) of St. Marys, Kenneth Tanking (Louise) of Holton, Randall Tanking (Alice) of Wetmore and Mary Lou Cheray of Topeka; and his brother-in-law Dean Shults of Topeka. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in Richard's memory for the Sabetha Nemaha County Training Center, sent in care of the family.
