He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Garrett and Lulu Garrett (Gastl); his son Dennis; his brothers, Howard, William and Roland; and his son-in-law Don Strahm.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret Huning; his children, Doug (Shannon) and Lorinda Strahm; his daughter-in-law Cheryl Garrett of Sabetha, Kansas; his grandchildren, Nikki Heiman (Kent), Tara Ploeger (Jesse), Natalie Deters (Dennis), Savannah Heironimus (Erik), Jill Doeden (Jake), Rachel Smith (Adam), Olivia Garrett, Brendon Garrett (Sara), Meagan Schmelzle (Treavor) and Reggie Garrett; and his son Tom Nakayama. He is also survived by his eleven great grandchildren.
