He was predeceased by: his parents, Rudolph Robert and Violet Novotny (Kaba); his wife Linda J. Coody; and his sister Roberta Hairfield. He is survived by: his siblings, Bill Novotny (Pat) of Overland Park, Kansas, Dolores Morton and Sharon Lovesee of Larned, Kansas; and his nieces and nephews, Cheryl Dietrich, Stan Morton, Kelly Moffet, Gayne Morris, Ramona Schwartz, Corbin Novotny, Rob Hairfield, Michael Hairfield, Steve Lovesee, Ron Lovesee, Doug Lovesee and Joel Lovesee. He is also survived by 15 great nieces/nephews and numerous great-great nieces/nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and sent in care of the mortuary.
