He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Eugene Chick, Sr. and Margaret Flossy Chick (Daniel); his son Michael L Phelps; and his brother Charles Chick. He is survived by: his wife Peggy Lorraine Swartz; his daughters, Terri Lynn Sutton of Manhattan, KS and Vicki Phelps of Fort Wayne, IN; and his daughter-in-law Winona Phelps of Paola, KS. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
