He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wait and Minnie Esther Wait (Sinkle); his former wives, Jo Ann Bramlett and Arlene Butts; his wife Wanda Booth; and his siblings, Maxine Huck, Ruth Smitherman, Doris Riner and John Wait, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Brenda Martin (Rick) of Protection, KS, Candy Murphy (Tom) of Protection, KS, Elaine Phillips (Jeff) of Arkansas City, KS and Merle Wait, Jr. (Jacki) of Fort Worth, TX; and his grandchildren, Rustin Martin (Lindsey), Kelby Martin (Becca), Brandon Martin, Joe Murphy (Hilary), Doug Murphy, Jennifer McClure (Jake), Ben Murphy (Tracy), Sheldon Sanders (Christina), Kelli Wait, Lora Wait, Melissa Wait and Andi Wait. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
