He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Gaston and Ruth Bales (Toland); and his siblings, Marvin Bales, Charles Bales, Norman Dean Bales and Joyce Ann Bales.
He is survived by: his wife Lula; his children, Tom Bales (Pam) of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Melinda Leed (Todd) of Kansas City, Missouri; and his grandchildren, Eric Bales (Aisha), Allison Bales, Molly Leed and Tyler Leed (Emily).
