He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Abel and Fannie Abel; his siblings, Keith Abel and Lorraine Reynolds; and his son Steve Abel.
He is survived by: his former wife Dixie Hunst; his wife Ann Barcus-Abel; his children, Ed Abel (Laura), Jeanne FitzGerald (Kirk) and Joan Moore (Mike); his daughter-in-law Colleen Abel; and his grandchildren, Shane (Teresa), Shannon (Johnny), Kris (Bill), Jeni (PJ), Travis, Katie (Jayson), Donna (John), Shaun (Lori), Angela (Lee) and Sarah (Renee). He is also survived by 28 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and many step-grandchildren.
