He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Smart Higdon; his children, John Kenneth Higdon, Jr. (Jay) and Sherin H. Custer; and his siblings, William E. Higdon, Robert V. Higdon and Ruth Knudtson.
He is survived by: his children, Barbara E. Higdon and Donald S. Higdon; his stepdaughter Liz Smart Hinton (Curtis) of Overland Park, KS.; his son-in-law Rob Custer (Beth); his grandchildren, Jayne Higdon Dreyer (Kelly) of Kansas City, MO., Shawn M. Custer (Geona) of Severance, CO and Katherine B. Higdon of San Diego; his brother Donald T. Higdon (Sally) of Flagler Beach, FL; and his close friend Margie Braun of Lenexa, KS.. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
