He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wallace Roy and Betty Eloise Thornton (Fritts); his wife Theresa Dingman; his children, Matthew Thornton and Angela Thornton; and his siblings, Jacqui Wood, Cindy Hriber and Kent Thornton (Kathy).

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 8th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home & Crematory - Pittsburg (522 S Broadway St, Pittsburg, KS 66762). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 8th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location.

Memorials may be made to the Pittsburg Fire Department Charity Fund; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
