He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Milton and Ernestina Gaines (Weber); and his siblings, Reeta Gillet, Ron Gaines and Harvey Gaines.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Beth; his children, Beth Gaines of Westmoreland, Polly Giebler (Mark) of Wichita, Jarrod Gaines (Jennifer) and Newton; his sisters, Mary Olson of Peabody and Marjorie Gray of Peabody; and his grandchildren, Karl Riffel, Kyle Riffel, Kara Riffel, Devon Gaines, Morgan Gaines, Weston Gaines, Elizabeth Giebler and Robert Giebler. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
