Shirley J. Mathis Obituary
Shirley J. Mathis, 86, of Parsons, died at 10:49 A.M., Monday, May 30, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons.
She was born on April 4, 1936, at Parsons to Otis and Myrtle (Gray) Carson. Shirley grew up at Parsons and attended country and Parsons schools. Shirley later obtained a certification in dietary management.
Shirley lived in the Parsons area most of her life and lived in Morton, Mississippi for 10 years. She worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Westbrook Manor, Scotts Regional Hospital, and Labette Health in dietary management. She also worked briefly at Precision Products.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and crocheting. She also attended the Lutheran Church.
Shirley and Walter Schulze were married, and they later divorced. She and Glen Mathis were married in 1994, and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2004.
She is survived by her son, Walter W. Schulze of Parsons; five daughters, Carole Hernandez, and her husband, Tom of Hutchinson, Sharol Schoenhofer, and her husband, Bob Walnut, KS, Sheila Smith of Parsons, Patty Sharp, and her husband, John of rural Parsons, Bobbie Schulze of Parsons; two step-daughters, Frankie Moore and Dorothy Vance of Morton, MS; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; five brothers, Charles Gray of Oregon, Richard Gray of Oregon, Randy Gray of Oregon, Rodney Gray and his wife, Debbie of Granbury, TX; and Jim Carson of Parsons; ten sisters, Loretta Walsh of Oregon, Sharon Glenn of Oregon, Susan White of Oregon, Barbara Trotter of Oregon, Diane Matsche of Oregon, Judyshaun Rosenberger, and her husband, Allen of Oregon; Betty Fransway, and her husband, Bob of Granbury, TX; June Dodds of Parsons, Nancy Manners of Parsons, and Karen Carson of Parsons; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Schulze; her brothers, Rocky Gray and John Carson; and her sister, Roberta Wilson.
A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
