He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Louis "Elmo" and Ida "May" Willis; his wife Ellen Pargen; his siblings, Robert (Verna), Johan Powers and Rollin (Laquetta Willis); his sons, Jeffrey (Barbara Willis) and Gregory (Pam Willis); his grandchildren, Andrew (Anne Willis), Elizabeth (Russ Radi), David (Sabrina Willis), Adam (Kiley Willis), Emily (Nick Alderman), Nathan (Cammie Willis) and Katy (Caleb Hekele); and his great grandchildren, Jackson, Grace, Eleanor, Oliver Radi, Scarlett, Gunnar, Hazel Willis, Wylan Willis, Austin Willis, Mercy, Mavis, Millie Willis, Julia and Abby Alderman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are established with Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and Labette Community College - Richard & Ellen Willis Scholarship Fund.
