He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Peter and Myrel Faye Van Pelt (Frakes); his siblings, Gary R. "Corky" Van Pelt and Helen E. "Sue" Taylor; his son-in-law Carey Berry; and his stepson Arnold Ruebke.

He is survived by: his children, Randy Van Pelt of Yoder and Terry Berry of Oberlin, KS; his stepdaughter Juanita Spitzenberger (Barry); and his grandchildren, Heather, Wendy, Levi and James. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
