He was predeceased by: his son Richard Alan; his parents, John Schmidt and Marie Schmidt; his brother Raymond Eugene Schmidt; his sister-in-law Esther Stucky Schmidt; and his great grandchild Abigail Leslie Hecker.
He is survived by: his wife Josephine Goering of Pretty Prairie; his children, Steven Schmidt (Sue) of Darby, Karen Thompson (Gary) of Salina and Sarah Fleming (Sid) of Iola; his grandchildren, Leslie Thompson Hecker of Salina, Jesse Thompson of Austin, Leah Schmidt of Darby, Thomas Elsie and Luna Fleming of Iola; and his great grandchildren, Kennedy, Grayson, Remy, Harper and Alexa.
