He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur Hurst and Jeanette Hurst; and his brother Charles. He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Richard Hurst Jr. (Priscila) and Heather Wulf (James); and his grandchildren, Juliana, Holly, Asa, Lillian and Corinna Wulf.
