He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Kater and Ella Kater (Schmidt); and his brother Cliff Kater. He is survived by: his wife Sharol A. Wood; and his children, Eric Kater (Julie), Bruce Kater (Ann), Darin Kater (Tara) and Shari Grattan (Curt). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends University Athletic Fund and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
