He was predeceased by: his parents, Amy Payne (Newell) and John Howard Payne; his brother-in-law Verlin Freeman; and his brothers, Thomas Mealy (Denise) and Martin Payne.
He is survived by: his wife Lola Kathleen "Kathy" Lemon; his sons, Kevin (Angie), Edward (Antoine) and Michael (Janet); his grandchildren, Justin Payne (Jessica), Kristen Buchman (Cale), Mackenzie Payne (Kendall Jeffers), Joshua Payne and Jayden Payne; his great grandchildren, Hensley Buchman and Jade Payne; and his sister Judy Freeman. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
